$40.5 $67.64
Champagne De Rochecre poster – Vintage Beers, Wines & Spirits Poster – Leonetto Cappiello 1910 This exquisite Champagne De Rochecre poster, crafted by the renowned artist Leonetto Cappiello, stands as a testament to the artistry of advertising. Originally commissioned for the JB Chamonard House in Epernay, a distillery famed for its Absinthe, this poster captures a moment of pure sophistication. The artwork is influenced by the cartoons of Cappiello’s fellow contemporary, Toulouse Lautrec. In this vintage Champagne De Rochecre poster, Cappielli portrays a captivating young redhead, her allure magnified as she indulges in a glass of bubbly. Draped in a flowing black ballgown, complemented by matching opera gloves and a neckerchief, this elegantly attired debutante embodies grace and charm. With every sip from her champagne glass, she personifies refinement. A Dazzling and Iconic Design The design of the Champagne De Rochecre poster is both elegant and bold. Draped in a flowing black ballgown, complemented by matching opera gloves and a neckerchief, this debutante embodies grace and charm. Her pose, black dress, and red hair all create a striking contrast against the poster’s vivid yellow background. When originally printed at a colossal 1m wide by 1.4m high, this drinking beauty would have appeared almost life-size on the streets of Paris, making it an unforgettable piece of vintage advertising. The Allure of a Classic Champagne De Rochecre Poster We can’t be sure which of his models Cappiello used for this piece, but she does bear a striking resemblance to the model who appears on his posters for Nuyens’s Menthe, Champagne Delbeck and Le Frou Frou, and Absinthe Ducros Fils. They also bear a passing resemblance to Gabrielle Réjane, , a popular French actress from the Belle Époque era. Cappiello featured the star in a poster promoting her own show at the Theatre de Vaudeville in 1902. This stunning Champagne De Rochecre poster is a true reflection of the period’s artistic style. We can’t be sure which of his models Cappiello has used to pose for the poster, however, she does bear a striking resemblance to the model that appears on Cappiello’s Nuyens’s Menthe, Champagne Delbeck and Le Frou Frou posters as well as his EA Mele and his poster for Absinthe Ducros Fils. And, they all bear a passing resemblance to Gabrielle Réjane, a popular French actress and singer during the Belle Epoque era. Cappiello featured the star in a poster promoting her own show at the Theatre de Vaudeville in 1902. Cappiello drew inspiration from the works of two artists in particular: Henri Toulouse Lautrec and Jules Cheret. From Toulouse Lautrec, Cappiello borrowed the loose cartoonish style that characterised much of the French artist’s early work. As can be seen in this fabulous Absinthe Gempp Pernod poster the style was particularly well-suited to the large format posters that were popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, allowing Cappiello to create striking images that could be seen from a distance. The JB Chamonard distillery was based in Epernay, Northern France. Nestled among vineyards, Épernay lies in the Marne Valley. A town that came to prominence in the 18th century due to its association with Champagne. The quaint historic town and self-proclaimed ‘capitale du champagne is known for one of the most famous addresses in the world, the Avenue de Champagne. The oldest Champagne House in Epernay is Ruinart which was founded by Nicola Ruinart in 1729. Since then the town has seen many prestigious more houseouses settle there. World-renowned names such as Moët & Chandon, Bollinger, Mumm, Champagne Pommery, Champagne Mercier, Taittinger, Pol Roger, Perrier-Jouët, Champagne Boizel and Champagne de Castellane are all proud to call Epernay home. In fact today, these are just some 35 Champagne houses in Épernay, many of them enjoying worldwide renown.
