The Beatles Candlestick Park concert poster – Here Come The Beatles 29 August 1966

$40.5 $73.71
The Beatles Candlestick Park concert poster – Here Come The Beatles 29 August 1966 Other than their unannounced live appearance in January 1969 on the rooftop of the Apple building, The Beatles’ final live concert took place on 29 August 1966 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California. To advertise the show, the promoters turned to the talents of artist Wes Wilson. His design is the only Beatles concert poster to remotely embrace the psychedelic fashions of the late 1960’s. Even so, it is quite a dark and sombre designed poster, perfect as it turned out to be the last Beatles concert poster ever created. The date of the concert Monday, August 29 and the venue name Candlestick Park stand out vividly against a solid black background. In a large blue box at the top of the poster reads the words ‘Here Come The Beatles’ in stylised red lettering. The UK and US flags are entwined in a Yin and Yang style design. A photo of Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison appear in blue halftone dots against a red polka dot background. Details of how to obtain tickets appears in white over the Fab Four. Below the band’s image in a yellow border are the names of the support acts, The Cyrkle, The Ronettes and The Remains with two more acts to be ‘determined’. It is thought that only 300 copies of the poster were originally printed and that far less than 100 originals remain in any decent surviving condition. The few that remain in mint condition command prices in the five figures. The Beatles Candlestick Park concert Capacity at Candlestick Park, home of the San Francisco Giant’s baseball team, was 42,500. Fans paid between $4.50 and $6.50 for tickets, but only 25,000 tickets had been sold. The Beatles’ fee was around $90,000 and they took 65% of the gross. The City of San Francisco took 15% and were provided with 50 free tickets. The event was a financial loss for the local promoters Tempo Productions. The support acts were, in order of appearance, The Remains, Bobby Hebb, The Cyrkle and The Ronettes. Showtime was set for 8pm. According to reports the dressing room was chaos. There were loads of people there. The press tried to get passes for their kids and the singer Joan Baez was in there. Any local celebrity, who was in town, was in the dressing room. They were having a party in there. The Beatles took to the stage at 9.27 pm, and performed 11 songs: ‘Rock And Roll Music’, ‘She’s A Woman’, ‘If I Needed Someone’, ‘Day Tripper’, ‘Baby’s In Black’, ‘I Feel Fine’, ‘Yesterday’, ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’, ‘Nowhere Man’, ‘Paperback Writer’, and ‘Long Tall Sally’. The group knew it was to be their final concert. How much is an original Beatles Candlestick Park concert poster worth? The original version of this poster measures approx. 17 1/8″ X 24 1/16″. In its original form the paper concert flyer for The Beatles appearing at Candlestick Park, San Francisco on 29 August 1966, commands high auction prices. One copy was placed at auction in 2020 and realised a price of almost $5,000.
