It was founded in 1927 making it is one of Spain’s oldest airline company’s. The airline is also known as Lineas Aereas Españolas or Spanish Airlines and is still in operation today. Lineas Aereas Españolas had been nationalised in 1944 towards the end of world war two. This fabulous Lineas Aereas Españolas airline poster was created in 1946 to help promote the airline and rebuild the airline and its brand. It was created by Editorial Pueris. The Spanish Airlines poster The Iberia Lineas Aereas Españolas poster was intended to portray several messages to its viewers. First it was to announce to the world that the airline was rebuilding following world war two. That the airline was back and open for business. The Spanish airline was also keen to show that they were distancing themselves from the German market. IBERIA had strong links with Germany in its early years. The map on the Iberia Lineas Aereas Españolas poster shows the flight destinations to a variety of countries. The lines are shown thicker between Britain, Italy, Africa and North and South America. The lines are thinner for the flights connecting to Germany. Rather than Germany, Iberia Airlines were now focussed on establishing relations with the United States. To this end Iberia were to purchase aircraft and supplies of aeronautical material for their operation. Iberia Lineas Aereas Españolas invested in ten American aircraft. Seven Douglas DC-3’s and three Douglas DC-4’s. The aircraft depicted in the vintage airline poster, posseses the EC-DAQ Registration Number. It is one of those newly built four-engined DC-4 Skymasters. In 1946, IBERIA became the first airline to fly between Europe and South America. Using a Douglas DC-4 the company’s accomplished its first transatlantic flight. Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals.
