Automobiles Scat vintage car poster – Leonetto Cappiello poster – 1920 This vintage automobile poster leads with the heading Obsession!! And let’s face it that’s what choosing your next car becomes… an obsession. The Automobiles Scat poster was created by the innovative and prolific poster artist Leonetto Cappiello. The artist has captured the turmoil of deciding which car to choose next. Against a jet black background, Cappiello has created an image of a very serious-looking, bald-headed man obviously pondering this exact dilemma. The gentleman’s glabrous head ensures that viewers of the poster has a clear look at what the man is thinking about. His mind seems focussed on Scat Automobiles latest offering. Società Ceirano Automobili Torino, better known by its acronym SCAT, were an Italian automobile manufacturer from Turin in Italy. The company was founded in 1906 by the Italian entrepeneur and pioneer of the motor car, Giovanni Battista Ceirano. The groundbreaking company was active from 1906 to 1932. Its cars achieved success in the Targa Florio public road endurance race held in Scicily with wins in 1911, 1912 and 1914. Given the time Leonetto Cappiello created this poster, the car on the thinking man’s mind is likely to be the SCAT 18-25 HP model which was introduced in 1921. The vintage Automobiles Scat poster seems to relay a hidden message that a Scat car is the car of choice for the serious-minded, thinking man. The kind of man with whom the car will become an obsession and will always be on the owners mind. But then maybe I’m thinking into it too much! Whatever the message the artist was trying to relay, there’s no doubt that the 1920s Scat Automobiles poster is yet another classic poster design by the incredible poster artist Leonetto Cappiello.
