Beaulieu Sur Mer Poster – Beaulieu S/Mer vintage travel poster – Tennis wall art – Viano The 1930s saw a significant transformation unfold in British leisure travel, marked notably by the iconic railway posters of the era such as this vintage Beaulieu Sur Mer Poster. The introduction of railways had already seen the growth of the British seaside resort. However, due to high costs and limited holiday entitlements they tended to be the exclusive coastal playgrounds of the wealthy. A pivotal change took place when British workers were granted one week of paid vacation annually. With dropping train fares and rising wages, Victorian seaside towns became accessible to thousands. As the working class began to enjoy these coastal getaways, the wealthier segments of society sought more distant and exotic travel experiences. To cater to this evolving trend, railway companies started producing posters, enticing the affluent to explore far-off destinations. Vintage railway posters, like this PLM (Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée) promoting Beaulieu Sur Mer, epitomise this shift in travel preferences, capturing the essence of an era when travel became a cherished pursuit for both the masses and the elite… but not yet together. This fabulous Beaulieu S/Mer vintage travel poster was created in the 1930s by Viano a French artist. In the image Viano transports us to the rear terrace of one of the magnificent large, white-fronted villas or grand hotels in Saint-Jean-Cap Ferrat on the French Riviera. Upon our arrival we are greeted by an athletic young woman, clad in her fashionable tennis attire. She stands on the terrace energetically waving her racket above her head, inviting us to join her. Her cheerful smile and flushed cheeks are enchanting, momentarily capturing our attention. However, our gaze soon shifts to the breathtaking landscape beyond her. We find ourselves momentarily transfixed by the view.In the foreground, three buidings emerge from the lush green tree cover of the woodland canopy. Among them, the historic Villa Andreae Nice and Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild are notable landmarks in Cap Ferrat. Although we cannot be certain, the third building on the left appears to be the Villa Le Bout de la Route. Perched by the seaside, Villa Le Bout de la Route offers a commanding view of the Baie des Fourmis and the charming, picturesque marina of Port des Fourmis. Undoubtedly, it serves as a haven for the yachts navigating the bay, and extending their voyages into the vast waters of the Ligurian Sea. Beaulieu’s second harbor, Port de Beaulieu-sur-Mer, remains concealed, nestled around the peninsula and in the next bay adjacent to Plage Petite Afrique. Our gaze travels further, reaching past Beaulieu to the striking white chalk cliffs of Mont Bastide in the Alpes-Maritimes, near the seaside resort of Èze. The view continues onward, stretching towards the gleaming principality of Monaco in the distance. It’s a great sight! Our stunning reproduction Beaulieu Sur Mer Poster was originally published and produced by the French railway company PLM. Tt was printed by Moullot, in Marseille in the early 1930s. Original copies of this poster are extremeley hard to come by and they don’t come to auction or private sale very often. One original copy sold at auction in 2014, realising a price of £2,750. Although it’s a lot of money, we think its a fair price for a poster that has survived almost a century and is still in great condition. There’s certainly no argument from us, if you can find an original copy and can afford to buy it, you’re probably on to a winner. There’s nothing like owning an original vintage poster and they often make a great investment. Chances are in just a few years you’ll be able to sell it for more than you paid for it. The reality is that for most of us, an investment, even at the entry-level prices of the collectable poster isn’t even close to being a possibility. This is where our stunning high-quality reproductions come into their own. They cost a fraction of an original, they’re available quickly and they look absolutely fantastic when they’re framed and hung on your otherwise blank wall. Order yours today! You won’t be disappointed.
