Fonte Meo Mineral Water Poster – Francesco Nonni – 1910 The elegant curves and flowing lines of this poster are clearly inspired by the Art Nouveau movement that was popular in France at the turn of the 20th century. However, the Italian artist Francesco Nonni has added his own unique style, creating a design that is both eye-catching and stylish. Nonni has enveloped the red-haired woman in a deep red cloak, in the style of a Roman palla, worn by respectable Roman women since the mid-Republican era. The cloak swirls around her body like flowing water in a rock pool. The woman is depicted holding a bottle of Fonte Meo Acqua Minerale Naturale mineral water. Her pose is reminiscent of the goddess Venus who is often portrayed carrying a vase of water or Aquarius the water-carrying star sign. The elegantly dressed woman young exudes an aura of mystery and intrigue. The text ‘Fonte Meo’ is written in a typeface that is based on the letterforms of capitalis monumentalis used for the inscription at the base of Trajan’s Column. The poster continues Acqva Minerale Natvrale. Anagni (Roma). Nonni’s stunning poster was produced to advertise the Fonte Meo brand of Italian mineral water around 1910. Original copies of this poster have been turning up at auctions quite regularly over the years. This doesn’t take away from the fact the posters are highly collectible. Original copies command a price of over £7,000. Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints. The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £15. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
