Captain Future is a science fiction hero – a space-traveling scientist and adventurer. He originally featured in his own Captain Future pulp magazine which ran from 1940 to 1944. He was created by Mort Weisinger and the bulk of his exploits were written by Edmond Hamilton. The artist Earle K. Bergey was responsible for twelve of the seventeen Captain Future magazine covers. This one for the first issue was created by George Rozen. The illustration was realised to tie in with the magazine’s main story ‘Captain Future and The Space Emperor’ – ‘A complete Book-Length Novel of Planet Conquest’ written by Edmond Hamilton. The poster features Grag, the seven foot robot, Otto, a white skinned android and Captain Future on their mission to help mankind. Fans of the show have pushed up the price of the original pulp magazines on the collectors market which can now fetch a price in the region of $500. Captain Future by George Rozen George Rozen was a prolific artist whose work graced the covers of dozens of pulp magazines. He is best known for the dynamic poster art for the covers of The Shadow magazine. But he produced artwork for dozens of pulp publications during his career. Magazines including Battle Stories, Triple X magazine, Modern Mechanix, College Stories, The Popular, Western Romances and many more. As his notoriety grew he was offered more work creating covers for magazines War Aces, War Stories, Phantom Detective, Popular Detective, Thrilling Adventures, Captain Future, and The Shadow. In 1931, having already produced several covers for the magazine, Rozen became the main cover artist for the Shadow Magazine covers. The Shadow became the world’s best-selling pulp mag with 250,000 fortnightly sales.
