This quality reproduction print captures the dynamic spirit of a bygone era. Designed and illustrated by the talented Italian artist Umberto di Lazzaro, this striking Art Deco piece was created for the commercial airline company, Linee Aeree Italiane. Lazzaro’s artwork vividly portrays the company’s fleet of planes in a rich blue sky. The Art Deco style highlights the speed and power of these passenger aircraft, as they slice through the air with remarkable grace. A majestic red Savoia-Marchetti plane is depicted in a diagonal dive, positioned just above a soaring, passenger-filled Fokker. The Linee Aeree Italiane poster’s dynamic composition feels more like an advertisement for an aviation meeting than a simple passenger service, evoking a sense of adventure. It’s easy to imagine thrill-seekers and aviation enthusiasts being drawn to the excitement of flying with Linee Aeree Italiane. The design celebrates the sheer exhilaration of early flight. This vintage airline poster was published in collaboration with the Italian National Agency for Tourism, known as the Ente Nazionale Italiano per il Turismo (ENIT). The ENIT logo is visible in both lower corners of the design, underscoring the poster’s historical significance. This listing features the Italian variant of the Linee Aeree Italiane poster. This version features elegant, hand-painted green lettering at the foot of the image that reads “Linee Aeree Italiane”. While English and Italian language versions are known to exist, this print celebrates the original Italian design, staying true to its heritage. It’s a fantastic piece for collectors and a great way to own a piece of aviation history. Linee Aeree Italiane, the Italian Aerial Lines Many people don’t know that Fiat, the world-renowned car manufacturer, played a significant role in Italian aviation. The company began its involvement in the fledgling aviation business in 1908, culminating in the completion of its first full aeroplane, the Fiat Cr.1 military fighter, in 1924. Following the First World War, Fiat shifted its focus to the growing commercial aviation market. In 1926, Fiat established the independent airline Avio Linee Italiane (ALI). While Italy was slow to join the commercial aviation business compared to its European counterparts, ALI’s first flights began in May 1928, with services connecting Rome and Germany. The airline’s growth throughout the 1930s led to an expanded fleet, which included seven Fokker F.VIIs. By 1938, the fleet had grown to include DC-2, Fiat G.18, and Savoia-Marchetti aeroplanes. It’s the Savoia-Marchetti S.73 and the Fokker F.VIIB-3m aeroplanes that Lazzaro chose to feature in his famous poster. The company merged with two other independent airlines, Airone and Transadriatica, in 1949 to form ALI – Flotte Riunite. This merger expanded the airline’s routes to major European cities, including Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Prague, Vienna, Barcelona, and Athens. The unified company was short-lived, as it was acquired by Línea Aérea IAACA (LAI) in 1952. How much is an original Linee Aeree Italiane poster worth? While many great aviation posters exist, few can compare to this one. It stands as a superb example of early Italian aviation art, perfectly embodying the Art Deco movement. This is likely why original stone lithographic prints of this poster are so highly sought after by collectors. The limited number of originals that have survived nearly 100 years also makes them incredibly rare. These factors cause prices for original prints to soar, often reaching sky-high values when they appear at auction or for sale. As of 2021, original copies of this Italian Aerial Lines poster by Lazzaro have sold for between £5,000 and £8,000. If you can find and afford an original, it could be a fantastic investment. For most people, however, investing in an original vintage poster isn’t a possibility. This is where our high-quality reproductions offer a brilliant alternative. They cost a small fraction of the price of an original and look absolutely stunning when framed and displayed. Our dynamic reproduction aviation poster can bring your walls to life. This affordable vintage wall art would look perfect in a living room, dorm, snug, kitchen, office, or even a hangar. Add the Linee Aeree Italiane poster to your basket today and own a piece of aviation history!
